Everything you need to pass the Life in the UK test

Three ways to practise, all written against Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents (3rd edition), the only book the real test covers.

Timed mock test

The real exam format: 24 questions in 45 minutes with a pass mark of 18 (75%). Know you’re ready before test day.

Untimed mock test

The same 24-question test with no clock, so you can take your time and focus on getting answers right.

Practise every question

Work through the whole pool in random order. See the right answer and why after each one, then stop and carry on later.

Results by topic

Your score, pass or fail, and a breakdown by chapter, so you know whether to revise history, government or everyday life.

Review every answer

A summary of every question: what you picked, the correct answer, and a short explanation from the handbook.

Fresh tests every time

Questions from your last three tests are drawn last, so you see new material instead of memorising the same 24.

Practise in the real Life in the UK test format

The Life in the UK test is a computer-based, multiple-choice test you take at an approved test centre. Most people applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or British citizenship need to pass it. Life in the UK Prep’s timed mock test matches it exactly.

Every chapter of the handbook covered

Questions are tagged by chapter of the official handbook, so your results show exactly where to focus. History and modern society carry the most questions, just like the real test.

We leave out handbook facts that have since changed, such as the monarch or the UK’s EU membership, so practice never contradicts the book or the present day.

  • The values and principles of the UK
  • What is the UK?
  • A long and illustrious history
  • A modern, thriving society
  • The UK government, the law and your role
